If your eyeglasses minimizes objects, you have myopia. If your eyeglasses magnifies objects, you have hypermetropia. If you have a prescription, it is easier for you to determine your vision disorder.

If you examine your eyeglasses prescription, you will notice that your diopter values are expressed as “sph”, “cyl” and “axis”.

“sph” indicates the first spheric number. With the help of this number you can know if your eyeglasses have concave or convex glasses. Negative values (-) show the degree of myopia diopter. Positive values (+) show the degree of hyperopia. Many eyeglasses prescriptions have two lines. The first line explains the degree of diopter as mentioned above. The second line explains the degree of presbiopia in patients above tha age of 40 years.

“cyl” indicates the degree of cylinderical eyeglasses. The degree of corneal curving is indicated (Astigmatism).

“axis” indicates the degree of meridian of astigmatism.
